Trabzon is the second largest city in the Black Sea Region after Samsun. Trabzon became a metropolitan municipality with the metropolitan law draft adopted on 12 November 2012 and Ortahisar district was established by removing the central district. Together with the two provinces, Trabzon is known as the "city of princes".
